Bibian Mentel - Netherlands - Adaptive Snowboard World Champion

Bibian Mentel
I met Sean MacCarron at Copper Mnt. during the USASA Nationals and he told me about his Stance finding machine. After losing my leg in 2001,I've always been searching for adjustments in my prosthetic leg and stance to find the "perfect" stance for me, so I was immediately very interested in his machine, the way it works and what it could do for me. I think , that especially for people with a disability, it could be very helpful to use the machine and find "your" personal perfect stance. This takes away a lot of time, finding your best stance to balance. In this way you don't have to worry about your stance anymore and you can completely focus on your riding skills. I've been riding for almost 15 years and been playing around with my stance a lot. It was good to see, that the stance I was riding at that point was only a few degrees different compared to what the machine told me....I did make those little adjustments and I have to admit, that it did even feel better, more solid. After my amputation I didn't feel that solid on my frontside turns, especially when it got bumpy.....since I couldn't absorb the terrain with my ankle joint.
It is on those frontside turns that I can totally feel the difference!

Mark Bishop - Scotland - BASI Trainer and Independent Snowboard Coach

I have been snowboarding for 24 years and currently work as an independent fully qualified coach and as a BASI trainer.

BASI asked me to go and check out the StanceFind Machine, so I met Andrew & Sean in Glasgow and Sean put me through my StanceFind experience. I was put on the StanceFind machine and was initially a wobbling wreck! A few adjustments were made here and there until my balance was regained.

I was amazed, the machine managed to work out the exact stance width, foot angles and lead leg that I already ride with. This machine scientifically endorses everything BASI currently uses, whilst training would be instructors, to set up a stance.

The StanceFind machine enables both beginners and/or Advanced riders to find the correct stance for their skeletal frame, which in turn, allows the board to reverse it's camber and react to pressures in a turn with ease. This results in easier carving.

The StanceFind machine will speed up any rider's learning curve as it works on a fundamental principle, balance. If you have balance you have the strength to move and react easily to any terrain you may be riding on.

I would highly recommend the StanceFind experience to all levels of snowboarders.

Peder Hansen - Summit County, CO, USA - Professional Bike Fitter & Snowboarder

As a professional bike fitter, I spend every day making sure that people are as comfortable on their bikes as they can be while making sure that they are biomechanically efficient and safe.
Proper skeletal and muscular alignment can mean the difference between confidence and injury. Sometimes a fitting can come down to mere millimeters. When a person is correctly fitted, they can progress much faster than if their body is working against them when inefficiently fitted. When uncomfortable, people tend to incorrectly diagnose issues which can lead to a maddening circle of adjustments.
I have been snowboarding for 5 years in Colorado and hadn't ever been able to go a season without moving my bindings every month or so.
My StanceFind experience was truly remarkable. I could tell right away that the position it put me in was comfortable and correctly aligned. Without preconceptions of stance and seconds between adjustments, I could immediately get feedback from my body. When I got on the hill, I could feel the difference as well. I felt more in control of my edges than I had before and more confident in my spins. I would recommend this product to anyone!

Scott McLean - Colorado, USA, Snowboard Instructor

I was checked out on the StanceFind recently in Colorado - what a cool machine!
You can definitely feel the difference of being in balance and out of balance.
My "SelfFind" (frustrating adjustments on the hill) was right on with one measurement but off on the other two according to StanceFind. Curiously enough, the two that were off were the two I was never comfortable with while riding.
Can't wait to try the correct ones!

Clifton Bradeley - Great Britain. Managing Director Sub-4 Ltd. Biomechanics Lab.

Clifton BradeleyThe rapid increase in the popularity of snowboarding has necessitated a whole new breed of specialists in training, design innovation and injury prevention. Until now the only way to experience snowboarding was to hire or buy the whole kit and arrive on the appropriate snowy hill side. This direct route to your new sport created a lot of problems. These included discovering that your hastily arranged foot position in the store where you purchased your board from is totally alien to your centre of gravity, which at best results in repeated falls and could potentially result in torn knee ligaments or even worse injuries.
I had the pleasure of assessing the StanceFind machine for biomechanical efficiency and validity in establishing an individual’s true foot position for balance. Human biomechanics is so unique we cannot use a set formula for all to establish balance on a snowboard. Human biomechanics is multi segmented involving many bones and their support structures. The tibia alone has a wide range of variations amongst the population from intoed, neutral or out-toed stance depending on the natural rotational torsion present in the shaft of the bone.
The StanceFind machine allows both experienced and newcomers to snowboarding to find their true stance whilst on the machines platform.
What does this mean? Well, potentially decreased risk of injury by allowing the feet and therefore body find its most efficient and effective posture during knee flexion. The knees flex during movement on the board to allow the body above to absorb shock and to balance. If the feet are not set up effectively this mechanism is ineffective and can cause injury. The StanceFind machine allows effective positioning of the feet and therefore body centre of gravity potentially reducing the risk of injury.

I am delighted to recommend this technology.

Dean Harford - New Zealand. Snowboard Instructor

Dean & Simon Harford
To whom it may concern, I am writing to say how impressed I am with Sean MacCarron’s snowboard stance positioning machine. Standing on the machine I could feel my stance reach the ideal distance between my feet, and my foot angle sorting itself. Watching my four year old son standing on the machine impressed me as to how adaptable the machine was for all body shapes and sizes. I would strongly recommend all snowboarders from first timers to advanced levels, check their stance using this machine.

Personally it has taken me seven years and as many snowboards to locate what I thought was my preferred snowboarding position. Unfortunately this was not the case, as I was constantly altering angles and widths regularly. I was given the opportunity by Sean to test drive this innovative machine. The StanceFind introduced me to a well balanced, centered, more efficient and comfortable stance within minutes of stepping aboard. Only a snowboarder knows the feeling and yes this has to be seen and felt to be believed. With the right tools, knowledge and feelings anything is possible. Thank you Sean an experience indeed.
